The San Diego Union-Tribune and the Los Angeles Times collaborated to create a bilingual television and online news program called 'Nuestra Voz Today,' meaning 'Our Voice Today.' I developed the name and branding for the initiative, inspired by the vision of award-winning journalist Luis Cruz for the show.
“I wanted to create something that both the LA Times and San Diego Union-Tribune reporters would be proud of,” Cruz said. “I have the utmost respect for the journalists we work with and for the field of journalism itself. In the logo, the spiral-shaped ('volute') speech scroll glyph from pre-Hispanic codices, was incorporated, it symbolizes the concept of speech itself. The Aztecs had a term in their language (Náhuatl) for this—tlatolli—emphasizing the importance of spoken word and communication.
