“Espero que la salida sea alegre y espero no volver nunca más.” Frida Kahlo

I had the honor of participating in an art show in Barrio Logan, San Diego, celebrating Mexican painter Frida Kahlo’s birthday. My entry was a vibrant 16” x 20” photo illustration, an ode to Kahlo’s art, which is rich in symbolism that reflects her personal experiences and emotions. Kahlo has always used her art as a means of self-expression and self-exploration, which deeply resonates with me as a Latina artist. Her work is a celebration of the human spirit and a testament to the power of resilience and strength in the face of adversity. Kahlo’s ability to confront her pain and transform it into something beautiful and profound continues to inspire and captivate many worldwide, solidifying her status as one of the most iconic artists of the 20th century.
