Making Sense of COVID-19 Vaccine Misinformation
A year after the COVID-19 pandemic, as New York City emerged as one of the hardest-hit areas, I was commissioned by the New York Daily News to design a cover illustration that would visually encapsulate the intense debate surrounding mandated vaccines. The cover needed to address the swirling myths, falsehoods, conspiracy theories, and fear tactics that had taken hold during this period. By 2021, with most New Yorkers aged 18 and older having received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, the city was gradually lifting its remaining restrictions. The article accompanying my design meticulously debunked the prevalent myths and laid bare the controversies. My challenge was to distill all of this divisiveness into a single, cohesive image that reflected the complex emotions and perspectives of that moment in time.
