In 2021, the world, and especially New York City, paused to honor the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. As we reflect on the sorrow of that day, it was an immense honor to be commissioned by The New York Daily News to create a cover illustration that served as both a remembrance of the tragic events and a dedication to the commitment and strength of those directly affected.

With this cover design, my intent was to honor the memory of the thousands of individuals who lost their lives in New York City, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC. I also sought to pay tribute to the heroic acts of first responders and the countless individuals who displayed extraordinary courage during and after the horrific attacks on our nation. Finally, I wanted to highlight the resilience of the New York City community. The events of September 11 will forever remain etched in our hearts, and we will never forget.
